Hand Throttle Installation To begin with, this is not a modification to be used on the street. It is a modification that is used off road with a vehicle that has a standard transmission where the need for the clutch, the brake AND the gas are prevalent. Here is the list of items needed- Bicycle hand brake handle - bike shop for $2 60” or so of bicycle brake cable - again bike shop for about $5 Electrical tape or duct tape Cable clamps like in the following picture auto parts $3 Throttle linkage clip - auto parts $3 Two washers - box in the corner of the garage First thing first, take off the air cleaner so you can get to the throttle linkage. Next go inside the cab and reach the cable thru the shifter boot so that it drops to the driver side of the truck (keeping it away from the exhaust). Route the cable up from the back of the engine to the right side of the throttle body like in picture #1. The next thing for you to do is to mount the handle to the shifter, this will be a touchy-feely thing because you want it where you can work it yet also where you don’t wedge it against the dash and go speeding off down the trail accidentaly. This is where the tape comes into play. When you have a good idea where it needs to be clamped on then take the tape and roll a small ball around the shifter shaft so the shaft and the handle can tighten against each other as in picture #2. Now take the cable and attach it to the handle (make sure that when you get the handle that you get the small ends that the cable end affixes to at the handle or this won’t work - look at a bicycle handle to see what I am talking about). Although it is not in the picture you may need to fix the cable to the shifter with a ziptie. Outside now, you will need to fashion a bracket or clamp to fix the cable shell (the outside of the cable) to the throttle linkage bracket. I made one from a piece of front brake bar that the pads bolt to from a bicycle - (note: this is the hardest part of this mod). Now you take the end of the cable and fashion a loop to slip around the pin on the throttle bracket at the throttle body as in picture #1 using the washers and the clip attach the cable and you are done. The hand throttle cable should be snug but not tight against the bracket or else you could be causing a higher idle like holding your foot on the gas a little. Now to test your hard work. With the transmission in neutral and the parking brake engaged fully, start your truck. With the clutch depressed reach over and lightly squeeze the handle and see if the engine idles up as you squeeze. If the cable is snug and everything is tightened down then you are finished. Remember - this modification is NOT- I repeat NOT for use on the highway or other public roads! Please be safe out there and thanks for reading! Picture #1
