Inside Your CPI VORTEC

Special Tools needed:
Tamper Proof Torx

Ok if you have low fuel pressure or you smell gas when the AC is on you may need to open up your CPI motor to replace the fuel pressure regulator, injector, or fuel lines. The fuel lines, (the main, return, or injector feed lines) can crack making a fuel smell when the motor is hot. In this case the regulator was going out. The pressure for this truck is 60psi.

Ok looking at the motor you need to first take off the VORTEC name plate and remove all the cables and brackets bolted to it.

Remove the top and behold the mess that the EGR makes inside. Also you can look for clean spots that will show gas leaks in the fuel lines. Remove the fuel injection assembly, plug the line holes and clean with carb cleaner.

Now with the injector assembly removed it time to look at fixing it. I do recommend that you replace the whole unit including the injector at this time, but it is a pretty penny to do so. All these parts can be bought by them self.

Injector removed with screen still on.

Injector

Injector ports. See that there are 6 ports, one for each cylinder.

Fuel pressure regulator still on the injector assembly.

Fuel pressure regulator off the injector assembly.

Fuel pressure regulator parts.

Cylinder feed lines on injector assembly.

Cylinder feed lines removed from injector assembly.

The injector assembly all taken apart.

Now if you happen to break the injector plug you can take it apart and replace it new or take it off a TBI unit like we did.

Put it all back together and with a new gasket you are ready to put the top back on.
