1995 S10 305/350 swap

Postby Baggey22 » Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:11 pm

I want to swap the 4.3 out of my S10 for either a 305 or a 350 V8.
Problem is I can't decide which motor would be better. The truck will be strictly a trail rig and I want a motor with LOTS of torque. Also I know that the 350 will bolt right up to my existing transmission but I don't know about the 305. So any information about either engine would be great. And if anyone has a fully built 305 or 350 let me know! Thanks

The differences between the 305 and 350 are strickly internal. All parts will interchange on the outside, including transmissions. Both will bolt to your 4.3 trans. As far as the most torque, the 350 stock will build more than the 305.
6.5 turbo diesel,built 700r4,dana 44's,f. locker,and attitude.

Go with the 350. More torque for the dollar.

Okay so what should I look for EXACTLY when I go out trying to find a 350? Like is there a certain year time frame I'm looking for? Thanks

Do you want fuel injection? Or Carb?

I would go with a 350 out of an 88 or newer F-Body. (camaro/firebird) Roller cam, center bolt valve covers, one peice rear main, and a very good base to start from. If you dont want the hassle of setting up the TPI, there are many manifolds to choose from, and, if you currently have TBI, it is a simple matter to make it work on the 350. (I personally prefer fuel injection, nothing like a performance car that gets 25 mpg on the highway.... lets see ya do that with a carb!)
