I think I will need to change the front output shaft on my 98 blazer. I read that I will need the shaft from a NP231, the yoke and the front drive shaft from a cherokee. The problem I'm having is the junk yards around me won't sell me the front yoke. They won't let me split a T case. I even looked for one that was wrecked that might have a broken T case that I could take the yoke out of. Any place you can think that I can get one?? Thanks |

Call John at JB Conversions. He usually has a ton of front outputs for both the narrow and wide chain NP231's. You can get the yoke cheap online(ask John if he has any, or get the part # from him and do a Yahoo search). |

It seems like this question gets asked a lot about which front yoke someone needs to swap into their t-case and its hard to get a direct answer. I was wondering if anyone had the actual years that you can get a CV yoke out of a 231 t-case whether it be a cherokee or wrangler. I know the later TJs used a CV front driveshaft and im assuming its the same as the XJ? not even sure what year XJ people are talking about as it seems to be a very loose topic. If anyone has some specifics that would be great. Or just post what years you have taken yours from that have fit, then we could kind of compile a year range that works and possibly sticky it. I looked through a lot of posts and maybe I looked over, but for how many times its asked it'd be a good info. (Just wanted to be clear, I am not talking about the front shaft as I know there are 2 different chain widths, just the front yoke to run a CV shaft) |

Any year XJ should work as long it has the NP231 case and not the quadratrac case. I don't remember the year range for the XJ but they all had coils in front and leaf springs in the rear. |

I got the CV yoke off a cherokee with a NP242 t-case, not sure if that's the quadratec or what. Whatever it was, it was the 26 spline and fit right on my 233. |

Without getting too much into the "Quadra-trac" deal(it's a "jeep thing"), the original version(built by Borg Warner) wasn't offered after '79(4years before the first XJ Cherokee). Jeep Cherokee XJ's(what you want the front yoke off of) ran from '84 - '01. While the NP/NV242 is a full time t-case, it's a bit different than the original Borg Warner 13-series Quadra-trac case. |

So if I'm understanding this right, as long as its from an XJ it doesnt matter if its coming from a np/nv242 or a np231 t-case. Also, I would assume since the newer like 97+ TJs have a np231 with the CV driveshaft that front yoke should work also? No one has said anything about the TJs only the XJs so I wanted to be sure. And Blazervb38 I might take you up on that

That's held true for all of the XJ's I've looked under that still had the stock drivetrain. They'll work. I don't know about the yards where you're located, but you're more likely to find XJ's than TJ's scrapped around here. I don't think I've been to a yard that didn't have at least one XJ, but I might be able to count on one hand the number of TJ's I've seen. The one's I have seen were pretty much stripped. |

That's how it is here too. The XJ is becoming more popular in the junkyards than the 73-87 Chevy. The only thing I can think of is that maybe in some states they have government push to scrap older vehicles in junkyards, therefore leaving only the newer stuff. |
