Second S10Extremist Bash

May 2001

Eldorado North Carolina USA

Now is where it got exciting for me!  Jeremy had gone to the hospital with Aaron, Mark, and Angie, and his truck needed a pilot!  Jeremy's truck is a standard cab, short-bed, so the wheel base is nearly identical to my Blazer's.  Furthermore, he has exactly the same tires as my Blazer.  The main difference was that he has a 5-speed while my Blazer is an automatic.  However, my daily driver Blazer 4-door is a 5-speed, so I pretty much felt right at home!  Finally I got to drive on the Uwharrie trails!!!  But there wasn't much time to sit back and relax, or dwell on fun obstacles...  the rain was coming down pretty heavy by now, so it was all business.  We all squirmed and occasionally spun here and there up the hills and on and around the rocks.  It was lots of fun, but would have been much more enjoyable if we had time to stop and play here and there.  But the trip back to camp was, for the most part, quick and uneventful.  We ran into Aaron on the way back, who had arranged for the campground's gates to remain open for us!  As soon as we hit the campground, Jeff headed for the hospital to check on his sweetie!  Luckily, the good news was that both Mark and Angie were fine...  Angie's nose wasn't even broken, just banged up a little!  And Mark escaped the hospital without stitches!

As soon as we made it back to camp, I (like many others!) could think of nothing other than getting some food in my stomach!  As luck would have it, there was plenty of food lying around from other folks' earlier meals.  Hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken...  And chips of all sorts everywhere!  After filling my stomach, I hit those hot showers to wash off the red North Carolina dirt and liven myself up a bit!  After that, it was back to the campfire to chat with all the folks that still hadn't heard a first-hand account of the rollover or the recovery!  Campfire talk is apparently one of the great things about camping!  Stories about the day's events as well as last year's Bash, jokes of all sorts, and just general chit-chat.  I stuck with it as long as I could, but eventually the hectic day caught up with me and I had to crawl into my tent and get some shut-eye...
